Reflections on 18 Years of TOUGHKids Triathlon

Despite 18 years of challenges, the 2024 TOUGHKids Triathlon brought record participation and unforgettable moments. Thanks to our incredible team and community, young athletes continue to thrive and inspire.

Over the past 18 years, we’ve faced a wide range of challenges: hurricanes, last-minute course changes, economic recessions, inflation, wars, political upheavals, workplace troubles, and even a tornado the night before the Long Course triathlon.

These setbacks and curveballs affect everyone involved—athletes and organizers alike.

Yet sport remains the great equalizer, our remedy, and our motivation.

Our goal is to make it possible for you to achieve your goals, live freely (if only for 8 hours), and find happiness through the experience.

Organizing an event is never without its hurdles—weather, staffing, and economic challenges can complicate our efforts.

But we are incredibly fortunate. We have a dedicated family of staff who have stood strong together for 18 years. We have a wonderful venue supported by an outstanding NYS Parks department. And we are grateful for our amazing sponsors.

Most of all, we are blessed to be on this side of the finish line, organizing an event that offers you, the athlete, the chance to be part of something bigger—something that inspires you to live up to your full potential.
